Delegates of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the Sene East constituency have expressed confidence that former Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia will secure a decisive victory in the party’s 2026 presidential primaries.

According to the delegates, Dr. Bawumia remains the most marketable candidate to lead the NPP into the 2028 general elections. They argue that his track record in public service, commitment to digital transformation, and loyalty to the party position him as the best candidate to return the NPP to power.

Their endorsement comes as Dr. Bawumia officially launched his nationwide campaign dubbed “Our Journey Together” in the Sene East constituency on Wednesday, October 15, 2025. The campaign will take him through all 276 constituencies as he engages the party’s grassroots ahead of the primaries.

Addressing enthusiastic supporters, Dr. Bawumia said the NPP’s loss in the 2024 general elections was not due to the strength of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), but rather low voter turnout among NPP supporters.

“The NPP’s votes went down. About 2.1 million people who voted for us in 2020 did not vote in 2024. These were NPP members, we simply didn’t vote,” Dr. Bawumia said.

“Former President John Mahama won by a margin of 1.7 million votes. If our 2.1 million members had turned out, we would have won. That is why I said it wasn’t the NDC that won the election, it was the NPP that lost it,” he added.

Dr. Bawumia emphasised that the path to reclaiming power in 2028 will depend on unity, discipline, and renewed commitment among the party’s rank and file. He said his track record and sacrifices for the NPP demonstrate that he is ready to lead the party into a new phase of transformation and electoral success.

“My track record and sacrifices for the NPP prove I’m ready to lead.”

The flagbearer hopeful urged supporters to remain united and avoid internal divisions, stressing that every member has a role to play in ensuring the party’s comeback in 2028.

The “Our Journey Together” campaign is expected to continue across all 16 regions, focusing on grassroots mobilisation and re-engagement with the party’s base ahead of the January 2026 primaries.
