The ongoing Bawku chieftaincy conflict is beginning to have ripple effects beyond its immediate area, with concerns rising over its impact on the Savannah Region.
Speaking to journalists after a high-level stakeholder meeting, Savannah Regional Minister Salisu Be-Awuribe highlighted how the situation is affecting communities within the region.
“The spillover of the Bawku chieftaincy issues is affecting the Savannah Region. You know that if you pass through the Sandema area, you can come through to Daboya,” he said.
He further explained that due to the conflict, traffic has been diverted from the main route through the North East Region, impacting movement and trade.
“So, if you don’t put in the necessary structures and define the system, some people can transpose the conflict from their area to our area here. And this is something that we are taking seriously,” the minister added.
Authorities in the Savannah Region are now prioritising preventive measures to contain any potential security threats arising from the chieftaincy dispute, ensuring that tensions do not escalate further into their jurisdiction.
