The Member of Parliament for the Awutu Senya East Constituency, Hon. Phyllis Naa Koryoor Okunnor, through her foundation and with support from the Lordina Mahama Foundation and the Ghana Education Service (GES), has awarded scholarships to needy but brilliant students in the municipality.
The scholarship scheme is funding the full four-year university tuition of two outstanding students — a washing bay attendant and a truck pusher — who completed Senior High School three years ago but were unable to further their education due to financial constraints.

Speaking in an interview with Atinka News, Hon. Okunnor highlighted the importance of investing in education, particularly for brilliant students whose dreams are often delayed by poverty. She explained that the initiative seeks to bridge the gap between academic excellence and opportunity.
In addition to the university beneficiaries, the scholarship package is also supporting ten (10) Junior High School students with educational assistance amounting to sixty-five thousand Ghana cedis (GH¢65,000), aimed at easing the financial burden on parents and guardians.

The legislator urged all beneficiaries to remain disciplined, focused, and committed to their studies, stressing that their success would not only justify the investment made in them but also inspire other students to strive for excellence.
Beneficiaries of the scholarship expressed profound gratitude to Hon. Phyllis Naa Koryoor Okunnor, Her Excellency Lordina Mahama, and the Ghana Education Service for identifying and supporting them. One beneficiary emotionally recounted how he had spent the past three years hustling on the streets to raise funds for university education, describing the scholarship as a dream come true.
The initiative has been widely praised as a life-changing intervention that underscores the power of education in transforming lives and communities.
