Augustine Arhinful: “We Shouldn’t Compare Any Current Striker to Asamoah Gyan”

He noted that Gyan’s goal-scoring record—particularly at the Africa Cup of Nations and the FIFA World Cup—remains unmatched by any current Ghanaian forward. According to him, such comparisons only pile unnecessary pressure on emerging strikers who are still developing and finding their rhythm.

Former Black Stars forward Augustine Arhinful has cautioned Ghanaian football fans and pundits against comparing today’s strikers to former national team captain Asamoah Gyan.

Speaking in an interview on Atinka FM, Arhinful stressed that Gyan’s achievements, consistency, and influence on the Black Stars place him in a class of his own.

Arhinful urged supporters to allow the current generation of players to grow at their own pace while appreciating Asamoah Gyan’s legacy as one of Ghana’s greatest-ever strikers. He added that instead of making comparisons, stakeholders should focus on nurturing young talents to reach their full potential.
