The National Chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Johnson Asiedu Nketia, has commended party members in the Effutu Constituency for their dedication and sacrifices during the 2024 general elections, despite the party’s inability to win the parliamentary seat in the area.

Addressing party faithful at a conference in Winneba, Mr. Asiedu Nketia said he was in the constituency on behalf of President John Dramani Mahama and the party’s national leadership to express appreciation for the commitment shown by supporters—from the voter registration period through to election day.

He noted that throughout the campaign, the NDC engaged widely with residents, including traditional authorities and workers, to better understand their concerns ahead of the party’s bid to return to power. While acknowledging that the party fell short of winning the Effutu parliamentary seat, he emphasized that the NDC nevertheless performed creditably in the constituency.

Mr. Asiedu Nketia praised party supporters for their resilience and hard work, stressing that their contributions played a vital role in the NDC’s overall success in the 2024 general elections.

Call for Unity Ahead of Future Elections

The NDC Chairman cautioned against internal divisions, warning that disunity within the party could weaken its chances in future elections and allow the New Patriotic Party (NPP) to retain the Effutu seat.

He assured members that their sacrifices had not gone unnoticed, adding that it would be unfair to acknowledge only constituencies where the party won parliamentary seats.

Mr. Asiedu Nketia reiterated the need for unity, collaboration, and renewed commitment among party members in Effutu to strengthen the party’s grassroots base and improve its prospects in subsequent elections.

24-Hour Market Project on Course

Also addressing the gathering, Nana Ackon Agyenfi (IV), Asubonpinin Adikro of the Effutu Traditional Area, assured residents that plans for the proposed 24-hour market in the constituency remain on track.

He said the project—promised by the NDC parliamentary candidate during the campaign and reaffirmed by President John Dramani Mahama—continues to be a priority, with steps already taken to ensure its realization.

According to Nana Agyenfi, traditional authorities and community leaders have agreed on a parcel of land for the project and completed the necessary preparations. He urged residents to remain confident, emphasizing the chiefs’ full commitment to supporting the initiative.

Concerns Over Voters’ Register

Touching on electoral matters, the traditional leader raised concerns about the voters’ register in the constituency. He disclosed that he is in possession of the NDC’s 2020 position paper on the electoral process and advised party executives to carefully consider its recommendations, particularly those relating to voter registration.

He stressed the importance of vigilance in future registration exercises, noting that the party has two years to adequately prepare. Nana Agyenfi also called on residents to remain alert and ensure that future registration processes are conducted peacefully and without interference.
