Arrest of Adu Boahene: AG always takes sides, but he isn’t being biassed – Srem Sai
Attorney-General Stands Firm: No Unfair Treatment in Adu Boahene’s Case

Deputy Attorney-General, Dr. Justice Srem-Sai, has refuted allegations that the Attorney-General’s Office is handling the case of Kwabena Adu Boahene, former director of the National Signal Bureau, in an unfair manner.
Speaking on JoyNews’ PM Express on Monday, March 24, Dr. Srem-Sai defended Dr. Dominic Ayine’s assertion that there is sufficient evidence against Mr. Adu Boahene to secure a conviction.
Dr. Srem-Sai emphasized that the Attorney-General (A-G) is not a neutral arbiter but rather a party to legal proceedings, making it normal for the A-G to take a position on cases brought before the court.
“Attorney Generals all the time have a stance on any case that they take to court. They have their position. The Attorney General is not an arbiter who is required to be fair and not to prejudice a case,” he stated.
His comments come amid concerns that the A-G’s confidence in obtaining a conviction—expressed before formal charges were laid—could influence legal proceedings and public perception.
Mr. Adu Boahene and his wife, Angela Adjei Boateng, were recently taken into custody over their alleged involvement in a $7 million cyber defence contract linked to financial misconduct.
Although they have not yet been formally charged, they remain in custody while working to meet their bail conditions.
Members of Parliament from the New Patriotic Party (NPP) have raised concerns that such public declarations about securing convictions could impact judicial processes.
However, Dr. Srem-Sai insists that this is standard legal practice.
“Anytime [the A-G] is arresting someone or putting a person before a court, he always says, ‘I have what it takes to obtain a conviction.’ So it is nothing new, it is nothing out of place,” he reiterated.
