Annoh-Dompreh instigation: NIB invitation “double standards, selective justice” – Minority asks, “Why wasn’t Gbande, too, invited?”

Last week, Mr Annoh-Dompreh told Bullet TV’s Morning Target in a one-on-one interview: “If the police itself cannot defend itself – the police are being attacked – then what happens to civilians? We must rise up and also defend ourselves”

Ghana’s parliamentary opposition has accused the National Intelligence Bureau (NIB) of applying double standards after Minority Chief Whip Frank Annoh-Dompreh was summoned over alleged inciteful remarks.

Mr. Annoh-Dompreh had urged supporters of the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) in Ablekuma North to stand by their fellow party members in confrontations with the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC).

However, the Minority in Parliament argues that the intelligence agency has failed to act with the same urgency in other cases, citing its inaction over alleged threats made by NDC Deputy General Secretary Mustapha Gbande against Minority Leader Alexander Afenyo-Markin earlier this month.

Speaking to journalists, Deputy Minority Leader Patricia Appiagyei criticised what she described as a selective approach to justice.

“If the NIB is truly committed to upholding law and order, they must explain why the Minority Chief Whip was swiftly summoned for interrogation over his comment, while the deputy director of operations at the presidency, who openly threatened the Minority Leader’s life, was allowed to walk free without consequences,” she said.

She warned that such disparities in law enforcement raise concerns about the neutrality of state institutions.

“This double standard raises serious concerns about the selective application of justice and the use of state institutions to police certain political figures while others are allowed to act with impunity.

“If public remarks are to be scrutinised, all individuals, regardless of their political affiliations, must be held to the same standard,” she added.

The NIB has yet to respond to the accusations.
