The arrest of Alhaji Sofo Azorka, National Vice Chairman of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), in relation to an alleged assault incident during the September 2, 2025, Akwatia by-election has been confirmed by the Eastern South Regional Police Command.
As part of ongoing investigations into the alleged attack on Alhaji Masawudu Osman, the third National Vice Chairman of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP), Alhaji Azorka was detained in Tamale, according to a police statement released on Wednesday, September 10.
Azorka has been officially cautioned and granted bail, according to the police, who also instructed him to report to the Regional Command while the investigation is ongoing.
“We wish to assure the public that thorough investigations will be conducted into the matter. The Ghana Police Service remains resolute in maintaining law and order. We entreat all parties and the general public to remain calm as we continue with our investigations and communicate further developments in due course,” The statement said.
