Alexander Ackuaku, Former National Democratic Congress (NDC) Parliamentary Candidate for the Bortianor Ngleshie Amanfro Constituency, has cautioned public officers to place the public interest above partisan or personal interests. Stressing that dishonesty has no place in public service.
Speaking on Bullet TV’s Morning Target program with Mrs. Seli Acolatse Apaloo on Thursday, August 28, Mr. Ackuaku addressed the recent Ridge Hospital incident, raising concerns about a nurse’s alleged claim of assault.
“Public officers should serve the public interest and not a political party’s interest. If you cannot be reliable and truthful, you don’t deserve to be in public service,” he stated.
He underscored the responsibility of public servants to remain truthful and dependable.
“When you are a public servant, your outlook should always be in the interest of the public that you serve. Public servants don’t manufacture lies; public servants only say the truth as it is. So, when you are within the public service, you always try your best to come out as somebody whose words can be relied on and trusted,” he emphasised.
Referring to the Ridge Hospital matter, Mr. Ackuaku described the nurse’s actions as “uncultured,” arguing that making false claims of assault undermines public trust and contravenes the law.
“What the nurse did was very uncultured because some of us, what we hate is to see that the public officer is being ridiculed or manhandled. So, when the thing hasn’t taken place and you claim it has, that is a very serious issue, and it is an offence even under our law,” he remarked.
He concluded by expressing disappointment over the allegation, saying:
“I expect that nurse will go to that extent to claim that she has been assaulted physically, when, in a natural sense, such a thing didn’t happen.”
