The Municipal Chief Executive of Ahanta WEST Municipal Assembly, Hon. Engineer Ebenezer Aidoo, has urged the chiefs and people of Ahanta to prioritise unity as a foundation for sustainable development in the area.

Addressing attendees at this year’s Dixcove Kundum Festival, Hon. Aidoo emphasised that disunity among residents hampers progress and has already cost the municipality potential investment opportunities.

He cited a recent missed opportunity involving Russian investors, which he attributed to internal divisions.

To promote long-term development, the MCE announced a collaborative initiative with the Member of Parliament for Ahanta West, Hon. Mavis Kuukua Bissue Boateng, aimed at training medical doctors from the constituency between 2026 and 2031.

The MCE highlighted some major infrastructure projects that are yet to commence within the Municipality and encouraged residents to place their trust in the new Municipal Assembly and the leadership of President Mahama’s administration.

He expressed optimism about the development prospects under the current government and called for patience and unity among the citizenries.

“I look forward to the day when both Upper and Lower Dixcove will come together to celebrate the Kundum Festival as one,” He stressed

Nana Kwesi Agyeman IX, the Paramount Chief of Lower Dixcove and Vice President of the Western Regional House of Chiefs, echoed the call for unity, describing the Kundum Festival as a time for reconciliation and togetherness.

He commended the MCE for recent improvements to the Agona Nkwanta–Dixcove road, which has been made motorable. However, the chief expressed concern over several uncompleted projects, particularly the stalled sea defence wall and the incomplete tarring of the same road.

Nana Agyeman also decried the rampant illegal mining activities plaguing the area, which he said are destroying forest reserves and polluting water bodies. He urged the government and security agencies to act decisively, warning that continued inaction would endanger the environment and compromise the future of Ahanta’s youth.
