Samuel Abdulai Jinapor, MP for Damongo, has rejected claims that he called Dr. Zanetor Agyeman-Rawlings, daughter of the late former President Jerry John Rawlings, the “daughter of a murderer” during heated parliamentary proceedings on Tuesday, 4 January 2025.

The outburst was heard while Minority Leader Alexander Afenyo-Markin addressed the House, urging calm amid a tense discussion on the 60th anniversary of Joseph Boakye Danquah’s death.

Tensions flared when Tamale Central MP Ibrahim Murtala Muhammed challenged what he described as exaggerated praise for JB Danquah’s legacy. As the debate intensified, Speaker Andrew Asiamah restricted contributions to only parliamentary leaders, preventing Dr. Agyeman-Rawlings from speaking.

It was at this moment that a male voice was heard shouting, “Daughter of a murderer, sit down!” – prompting outrage and speculation over who had remarked.

Social media reports accused Mr. Jinapor of being responsible, but he strongly refuted the claim.

“Anybody who has followed my career and public life will attest that I do not speak in that manner,” he told journalists on Wednesday.

“The words being attributed to me are not ones I would use. I didn’t even know such words had been said until I saw the trending video this morning,” he added.

Mr Jinapor, who served as Ghana’s Minister for Lands and Natural Resources, insisted he does not speak across the aisle in Parliament without first seeking permission from the Speaker.

“I have huge respect for former President Rawlings,” he said, dismissing the allegations as “false.”
