Residents of Soko, a community in the Afigya Kwabre North District of the Ashanti Region, are expressing deep concern over the deteriorating state of their electric poles, which have been severely damaged by termites.

According to residents, at least 13 wooden poles supporting electricity lines in the area have been weakened by termite infestation, posing a serious risk to lives and property. They fear the poles could collapse at any time if urgent action is not taken.

Community members say the damage has also plunged parts of Soko into darkness, as faulty streetlights remain unrepaired. Electricians reportedly avoid climbing the termite-infested poles for safety reasons.

A recent visitor to the community Sofoba Kwame Afrifah of Atinka TV reported that residents are appealing to authorities for immediate intervention to prevent potential disaster.

The residents have called on the District Chief Executive (DCE), Hon. Emmanuel Aguma, to prioritize the replacement of the damaged poles and to address other pressing needs — particularly the lack of potable water in the area.

They stressed that as the community continues to grow, there is an urgent need for improved infrastructure, including reliable water supply and safe electricity distribution.
