The former Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) of East Mamprusi, Hon. Issah Chimsi Abdulai, has mobilised residents of Wundua in the North East Region to rehabilitate sections of the Wundua–Langbinsi road after torrential rains washed away culverts.

The 15-kilometre stretch, which connects the East Mamprusi Municipality to Karaga District in the Northern Region, has been in a deplorable state for more than two decades.

Recent downpours worsened the situation, cutting off access and heightening security concerns for commuters, with residents citing increased risks of robbery along the road.

During a communal labour exercise, residents filled washed-out culverts with sandbags to restore temporary access. Speaking at the Wundua Chief’s Palace, Hon. Abdulai commended the community’s resilience but stressed the urgent need for government intervention.

“Residents have in recent days participated in communal labour, using sacks of sand to fill culverts washed away by rain. This road is busy with economic activity and needs urgent attention,” Hon. Abdulai told TMG reporter Tahiru Apiliye Ibrahim.

Frustrated residents also expressed disappointment over years of political neglect.

“The road worsens each year, now deemed a nightmare. Politicians only remember us when they need our votes,” a resident lamented.

Community leaders are calling on authorities to prioritise the rehabilitation of the Wundua–Langbinsi road, describing it as vital for trade, safety, and connectivity in the area.
