Dennis Miracles Aboagye, Dr. Bwumia’s Aide, has addressed the controversy surrounding the suspension of Chief Justice Tokonor, labeling it a political witch hunt that will leave a lasting stain on the Mahama-led NDC administration’s record.
According to him, although Tokonor may never be restored to her position under the current political climate, history and posterity will eventually pass judgment on the NDC government for what he considers a politically motivated and unjust decision.
His comment comes back after the Attorney General, Dr. Dominic Ayine, strongly rebuffed a joint statement from the Bar Council of England and Wales (BCEW) and the Commonwealth Lawyers Association (CLA) criticising the suspension of Chief Justice Gertrude Torkornoo.
In a statement issued and signed on (August 15), Dr. Ayine accused the foreign legal bodies of making a statement without acquainting themselves with the relevant constitutional provisions and factual details of the matter.
Speaking in an interview on Atinka FM’s Morning Show with host, Ekow Budu-Sam, Dennis Miracles Aboagye, stressed that the suspension undermines the sanctity of Ghana’s judiciary and sets a dangerous precedent for the future.
“Tokonor will not be restored, that is the sad reality. But posterity will surely judge the NDC government for how they chose to treat the Chief Justice”.
Mr. Aboagye accused the NDC of deliberately interfering in the work of state institutions for political gain, warning that such actions risk weakening the democratic foundations of the country.
