A founding member of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), David Kankam Boadu, has announced his bid for the National Chairman position, pledging to unite the party ahead of the 2028 elections.
Speaking on Atinka TV’s “Oman Mu Nsem” hosted by Nana Owoahene Acheampong, Boadu said the NPP is deeply divided and needs fresh leadership to bring it back together.
He said he does not belong to any of the current factions and urged supporters of Dr. Bawumia and Kennedy Agyapong to put the party first.
“I’m here to unite the NPP and lead us to victory. I have no blemish and no agenda other than saving the party,”- he stated.
Boadu has launched a campaign called “Operation Save NPP Now”, calling for unity and an end to money-driven politics.
He praised the party’s recent constitutional amendment that expanded the electoral college, saying it will reduce vote-buying and increase fairness.
On the party’s defeat in the 2024 elections, Boadu called on former President Akufo-Addo to apologize to party members and Ghanaians, saying leadership mistakes hurt the NPP.
“The party is in crisis. We need healing and honest leadership,” he said, adding that he would step down after one term if he is able to unite the party.
Boadu also called on former Presidents John Agyekum Kufuor and Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo to lead a reconciliation effort, warning that continued division could cost the NPP future elections.
The NPP is expected to elect new national leaders by April 2026.
