On Sunday, March 16, 2025, a fire broke out at Labone Secondary School in Accra, affecting three girls’ dormitories.

The incident occurred in the afternoon at approximately 1:00 p.m., but fortunately, no casualties were reported.

The fire completely destroyed learning materials, chop boxes, student mattresses, and other personal belongings. At the time, students were reportedly studying and preparing for their academic activities.

In an exclusive interview with 3News, ADO Alex King Nartey, a member of the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) Public Relations Department at headquarters, revealed that two other rooms were partially burned, while one of the larger dormitories was completely destroyed.

“We dispatched the tender at 13:00 hours, arrived at 13:07 hours, and had the fire under control by 13:42 hours,” he stated.

The GNFS suspects an electrical fault as the possible cause; however, a thorough investigation will be conducted to confirm the exact source of the fire.

With the situation now under control and no casualties recorded, the school’s administration is urging calm, especially among parents.

School authorities have assured that safety measures will be reinforced to prevent future incidents. Meanwhile, students from the affected dormitories have been safely evacuated.
