President John Dramani Mahama has named Mr Edwin Nii Lantey Vanderpuye, the former Member of Parliament for Odododiodio, to serve as the National Coordinator for the District Road Improvement Programme (DRIP).
This appointment places Mr. Vanderpuye at the forefront of one of Ghana’s most critical national development initiatives: road infrastructure.
DRIP, launched in July 2024 by former President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, is set to revolutionize road networks across the country’s 275 constituencies.
The programme aims to enhance the road systems within Metropolitan, Municipal, and District Assemblies (MMDAs) by providing them with the essential tools, resources, and machinery to improve road maintenance and construction.
At its core, DRIP seeks to decentralize infrastructure development, empowering local authorities to tackle road projects with both accountability and efficiency—a much-needed shift for a country with ever-growing infrastructure demands.
Mr.Vanderpuye’s appointment is a noteworthy one, given his unwavering commitment to transparency and accountability in public sector projects.
Throughout his career, including his time as Minister of Youth and Sports and Deputy Minister of Trade and Industry in a previous Mahama administration, he has consistently pushed for more effective governance and oversight in the implementation of government projects.
