The Ghana Football Association (GFA) has announced the postponement of Asante Kotoko’s Round 16 MTN FA Cup match against Eleven Wise, which was originally scheduled for this weekend.
The decision comes in the wake of the tragic death of Kotoko fan Francis Frimpong, known as Nana Pooley, who lost his life during violent clashes at the Week 19 Ghana Premier League match against Nsoatreman.
Kotoko, still grappling with the emotional fallout from the incident, has decided to halt all football-related activities until justice is served.
The GFA has taken the club’s request into account, postponing the match to a later date.
While Kotoko’s first team will resume training on February 19, the club remains committed to its stance of not participating in competitive fixtures until justice is ensured.
The GFA has expressed its condolences to the family of Nana Pooley and is working closely with the club and authorities to ensure accountability.
In the meantime, seven other exciting MTN FA Cup fixtures will take place this weekend.
On Friday, Attram de Visser will face off against Gold Stars FC at the Tuba Astro Turf. Saturday will feature Medeama SC against PAC Academy, while record holders Accra Hearts of Oak will take on Golden Kick FC at the same venue.
Sunday’s matches include Berekum Chelsea vs Northern City, Karela United vs Young Apostles FC, Bechem United vs Techiman Liberty Youth, and True Democracy vs Nania FC.
