Special Prosecutor Kissi Agyebeng has alleged that former Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta staged Tuesday night’s apparent raid at his Cantonments residence in Accra, to throw spikes in ongoing investigations involving him in four corruption-related matters.
At a press conference on Wednesday, 12 February 2025, Mr Agyebeng said the OSP does not use such modus operandi.
The alleged raid involved armed uniformed men in army fatigues.
Mr Ofori-Atta was not home at the time of the alleged raid.
Some reports suggest he is out of the country for medical treatment.
After declaring Mr Ofori-Atta a “wanted fugitive,” and advising him to return home immediately to face the corruption-related allegations involving Strategic Mobilisation Limited (SML), National Cathedral and two others which he did not publicly disclose, the Special Prosecutor then denied being behind the alleged raid.
“Mr. Ofori-Atta, the OSP did not raid your house on Tuesday, February 11, 2025, or on any other day. Mr. Ofori-Atta, the OSP did not cause any person, however uniformed, to raid your house on February 11, 2025, or on any other day. That could not have been the OSP, and that is not our style,” he said.
“If the OSP enters your premises, you will not be in doubt as to where the OSP had come from, and your lawyers will not have cause to inquire as to whether it was the OSP,” Mr Agyebeng stated.
“We have our unique methods of searches that are specifically designed to identify ourselves, not just by stating that we are from the OSP,” he added.
“Our intelligence,” Mr Agyebeng noted, “Points us to state that the purported raid of Mr. Ofori-Atta’s residence was staged or, at best, an imposter action in an attempt to court disfavour for the OSP and to derail the investigation.”
“The OSP is never deterred by such occurrences, and the investigations will continue as prescribed by law,” he stressed.
