Ghana’s Social Security and National Insurance Trust (SSNIT) has undergone a major leadership overhaul, with President John Mahama appointing Kwesi Afreh Biney as the new Director-General.
Mr Biney replaces Kofi Bosompem Osafo-Maafo, whose position has been revoked.
In addition, Mr Adam Sulley has been named Deputy Director-General in charge of Operations and Benefits.
Sources indicate that the contracts of Mr Osafo-Maafo’s three deputies have also been terminated.
The affected officials include Kwame Adu-Darkwa (Deputy Director-General for Finance and Administration), Juliana Kpedekpo (Deputy Director-General for Operations and Benefits), and Nana Serwah Bonsu Amoakom (Deputy Director-General for Investment and Development).
In April 2024, former President Nana Akufo-Addo removed Dr. John Ofori Tenkorang from his position as Director-General and appointed Mr. Osafo-Maafo to succeed him.
Mr Osafo-Maafo, son of former Presidential Advisor Yaw Osafo-Maafo, assumed office at a time of significant turbulence within SSNIT, including multiple resignations.
His appointment also resulted in Pearl Nana Ama Darko’s reassignment from SSNIT to the Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA), where she became Commissioner for Support Services.
Ms Kpedekpo, who replaced Ms Darko at SSNIT, is among those whose contracts have been revoked under the new administration.
