In a significant operation, National Security apparatus has seized an undisclosed sum of U.S. dollars and local currency notes, along with metals suspected to be gold bars, concealed within twelve 20-foot shipping containers. The discovery was made at a warehouse in Sapeiman, located in the Ga South Municipality, following a tip-off that led to the successful operation.
The containers, which contained bundles of U.S. dollars hidden inside wooden boxes and packed with cement, were traced to the facility. Additional investigations revealed more cash stashed in compartments sealed with plywood and charcoal, further complicating the operation.
National Security officials report that two containers remain unaccounted for, but efforts to track them are underway. Authorities have also launched a manhunt for four individuals, including a key suspect identified only as “Alhaji.”
The operation, which uncovered a range of illicit materials, also revealed counterfeit Ghanaian cedi notes in ₵50 and ₵100 denominations, as well as fake military uniforms and boots. This raid underscores the growing concerns over counterfeit currency and illegal gold trafficking within the region.
