Minister for Communication, Digital Technology and Innovations, Sam George, has announced a significant reduction in the cost of fibre broadband services offered by MTN Ghana, describing the move as a response to government engagement aimed at making internet access more affordable for Ghanaians.
In a social media post on Tuesday June 17, 2026, the minister revealed that the price of MTN’s unlimited 100 Mbps fibre broadband package has dropped dramatically from GHS 987 to GHS 299 per month.
According to him, customers can now access a 300 Mbps unlimited package for GHS 444, while a 500 Mbps unlimited package is available for GHS 999.
“You demanded. We engaged. MTN Ghana has responded,” Sam George stated, indicating that the reductions followed discussions between the government and the telecommunications provider.
The minister commended the management and staff of MTN Ghana for responding positively to calls for more affordable, stable and reliable broadband services.
“I want to express my gratitude to the management and staff of MTN who have heeded our call for more affordable, stable and reliable fibre broadband,” he said.
Sam George assured Ghanaians that the Ministry of Communication, Digital Technology and Innovations will continue to engage industry players to improve service quality and affordability across the country’s telecommunications sector.
The announcement is expected to be welcomed by households, businesses, remote workers and digital entrepreneurs who rely on high-speed internet connectivity, as the new pricing significantly lowers the cost of accessing fibre broadband services in Ghana.
The development forms part of ongoing efforts to expand digital inclusion and improve internet accessibility as Ghana continues its push towards a more digitally connected economy.
