The National Health Insurance Authority (NHIA) has suspended three pharmacies from participating in the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS) following findings of alleged irregularities in claims and service transactions.
The affected facilities are Deldem Pharma Limited in Iron City, Weija; Paramedica Pharmacy on Guggisberg Avenue in Ablekuma; and Desh Chemist located at Amasaman along Odumase High Street in the Greater Accra Region.
In a public notice issued on Thursday May 14, 2026, the NHIA said the decision takes immediate effect and follows a routine claims verification exercise that identified what it described as “material irregularities” linked to the facilities’ operations under the scheme.

According to the Authority, the findings have raised “reasonable suspicion of fraud and abuse under the NHIS Provider Service Agreement.”
As a result of the suspension, the pharmacies are no longer permitted to provide services or dispense medicines under the NHIS until further notice.
The NHIA has advised scheme members to seek pharmaceutical services from other accredited providers nationwide.
The Authority further cautioned all credentialed healthcare providers against engaging in fraudulent practices, stressing that such actions undermine the sustainability of the scheme.
It warned that providers found guilty of defrauding or attempting to defraud the NHIS commit an offence and are liable, on conviction, to a fine or imprisonment of up to ten years, or both.
The NHIA reaffirmed its commitment to accountability and the prudent use of public funds in delivering healthcare services across Ghana, stating that it will continue to enforce compliance among service providers.
