The Greater Accra Zongo Caucus has strongly condemned a recent attack on a Ghanaian citizen in South Africa, describing the incident as disturbing and unacceptable.

In a statement issued by its coordinator, Ismaila Ali Horoya, the group said the attack underscores the ongoing vulnerability of Africans living within the continent and called for urgent action to address such incidents.

The caucus denounced xenophobia, violence, and discrimination against foreign nationals, particularly Africans, warning that such acts undermine the ideals of Pan-African unity and cooperation.

Commendation for Government Response

The group commended Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, Ghana’s Minister for Foreign Affairs, for what it described as a swift and proactive response to the incident.

According to the statement, the minister’s engagement reflects the government’s commitment to protecting the welfare of its citizens abroad and strengthens confidence in Ghana’s diplomatic efforts.

Calls for Action

Despite acknowledging the response, the caucus called for further decisive measures from South African authorities, including a thorough and transparent investigation into the attack and the swift prosecution of those responsible.

It also urged authorities to strengthen protections for foreign nationals to prevent similar incidents in the future.

The caucus further appealed to the Government of Ghana to sustain diplomatic engagement with its South African counterparts to ensure the safety and rights of Ghanaians living abroad.

Solidarity With Victims

Reaffirming its position, the group expressed solidarity with the victim and others affected by xenophobic incidents, pledging continued advocacy for justice, accountability, and human rights.

The statement concluded with a call for unity across the continent, stressing that Africa’s development depends on cooperation rather than division.
