Two Robbers Shot Dead in Police Gun Battle After Tema MoMo Attack

Two suspected armed robbers have been shot dead following a fierce gun battle with police after a Mobile Money (MoMo) robbery in Tema Community 5 on Monday morning.

The incident occurred around 8:30 a.m. on April 13, 2026, at Aba Fosuah Plaza. According to the Tema Regional Police Command, the two suspects arrived on a black Royal motorbike, pretending to carry out a routine cash-out transaction.

As the MoMo vendor reached into her bag, one of the men pulled a pistol and demanded money. A struggle broke out, during which the second suspect joined in. The attackers shot the vendor in the leg before fleeing with a bag containing cash.

A nearby police patrol team from the Tema Regional Operations Unit quickly responded after receiving a distress call. The officers tracked the suspects to a junction near the Smart Hotel in Community 6.

Police say the suspects opened fire when they were intercepted, prompting officers to return fire. Both men were shot and fell off their motorbike, which bore registration number M-24-GE 778.

They were rushed to the Police Hospital but were later pronounced dead. Their bodies have been deposited at the morgue pending identification and autopsy.

A search conducted at the scene led to the recovery of a black 9mm pistol loaded with four rounds, GH₵11,390 in cash, the victim’s Ghana Card, three Android phones and several SIM cards, as well as a talisman and the motorbike key.

The injured vendor is currently receiving treatment and is reported to be in stable condition.

In a statement signed by ASP Dede Dzakpasu, Head of Public Affairs, the Tema Regional Police Command assured the public of its continued efforts to maintain security and urged residents to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity.
