Three people have died and 20 others have been rescued following the collapse of an uncompleted four-storey building in Accra Newtown, the Ghana National Fire Service has confirmed.
The incident occurred at the Experimental D/A School site on Sunday, March 29, 2026, and was reported at 5:01 p.m., prompting a swift emergency response. Rescue teams from the GNFS headquarters arrived within minutes to begin search and rescue operations.
In total, 23 persons—comprising 15 females and eight males, including three minors—were trapped under the debris. Through coordinated efforts by fire officers and partner agencies, the 20 survivors were pulled from the rubble and conveyed to various health facilities for treatment.
However, three individuals—two females and one male—were confirmed dead, with their remains handed over to the police for preservation and further investigation.
Rescue and security teams remain on site to complete debris clearing and ensure safety, as authorities begin investigations into the cause of the collapse.
The GNFS commended its personnel for their professionalism and timely response, and extended condolences to the bereaved families while wishing the injured a speedy recovery.
