The Chairman of the Parliamentary Select Committee on Health, Dr Mark Kurt Nawaane, has praised the Chairman of the Tobinco Group, Dr Nanna Amo Tobbin, for investing in health training institutions.

Speaking at the TMG National Health Dialogue, Dr Nawaane described the move as bold and important for Ghana’s healthcare system.

He said setting up health training schools requires huge financial resources, unlike other academic programmes. According to him, individuals who invest in such areas must be supported because they help build the country’s future workforce.

Dr Nawaane noted that Ghana needs more doctors, nurses and other health professionals to improve service delivery, especially in rural areas.

He also suggested that the government should partner with private institutions like those established by Dr Tobbin to train more students locally, instead of spending money to send them abroad.

“Students trained in Ghana understand our disease patterns better and can serve the country well,” he said.

Dr Nawaane added that increasing local training will help address challenges such as staff shortages and improve healthcare access across the country.

He encouraged other private investors to follow the example of Dr Tobbin to support national development through education and healthcare.
