President John Dramani Mahama has reassured members of Organised Labour that his administration remains committed to transparency, accountability, and prudent management of public funds.
The assurance was given during an engagement with labour groups at the Jubilee House on March 17, 2026.
Growing Labour Concerns
The meeting takes place at a time of heightened tensions between the government and labour unions, particularly with the Civil and Local Government Staff Association of Ghana (CLOGSAG), which has embarked on a nationwide strike over delays in implementing salary structure reforms.
“Nothing to Hide” – President
Addressing the concerns, President Mahama emphasised that his government is open about the true state of the economy.
“This government has nothing to hide. What you see is what you get… The statistics that we give you are the true state of the economy,” he stated.
He further used a metaphor to explain the need for transparency in resource allocation:
“Today we will show what the size of the national cake is before we all decide how we share… if we let you know the size, then you know that the share we are getting is commensurate to what the cake is.”
Focus on Fiscal Discipline
The President reiterated his administration’s commitment to financial discipline and responsible governance, assuring labour that the actual capacity of the economy will guide decisions on salaries and benefits.
The engagement is expected to play a key role in easing tensions and fostering dialogue between the government and organised labour as negotiations continue.
