The Chief of Egya Number 2, Nana Otswikuma VI, is calling on government to prioritize the extension of developmental projects to rural communities rather than concentrating them in major cities.

According to him, many rural areas continue to be neglected despite their contributions to the local and national economy.

Speaking to Tobinco Media Group reporter Agyei Kwaku Mensah at Egya Number 2, the chief noted that the Anomabo Traditional Area comprises about sixty towns and villages yet lacks significant development.

He criticized political leaders for engaging communities during election periods but failing to deliver meaningful development after gaining power.

He emphasized that rural communities should not have to struggle or beg for their fair share of national development.

Nana Otswikuma VI also highlighted local economic activities, noting that Egya is widely known for its octopus trade. However, he expressed concern about poor packaging and hygiene standards, which he said affect the marketability of the product.

He therefore advised women engaged in the business to improve packaging and presentation to attract more buyers and increase their revenue.

The chief’s remarks add to ongoing national discussions about equitable development and the need to bridge the gap between urban and rural communities in Ghana.
