President Mahama is scheduled to deliver his State of the Nation Address in Parliament today, February 27, reviewing the government’s achievements over the past year and outlining plans for the year ahead.
The constitutionally mandated address will cover major sectors including the economy, infrastructure, education, healthcare, and energy. Lawmakers, diplomats, traditional leaders, and civil society representatives are expected to attend.
President Mahama is expected to use the address to outline government actions on inflation, debt management, revenue mobilisation, job creation and macroeconomic stability. Against the backdrop of continued economic strain, he is anticipated to present measures designed to spur growth, attract investment and ease living conditions for Ghanaians.
Infrastructure is also set to feature prominently, with progress reports expected on roads, housing, water and sanitation, and other key public sector projects.
The address is expected to include updates on major flagship projects, as well as new initiatives aimed at speeding up national development.
On education, the President is anticipated to outline reforms to improve access, quality and equity, including school infrastructure projects, teacher recruitment and training, the expansion of technical and vocational education, and efforts to strengthen tertiary institutions.
Healthcare delivery is also expected to be highlighted.
The President will likely examine investments in clinics and hospitals, the growth of healthcare facilities, hiring of medical personnel, and initiatives to provide access to reasonably priced healthcare nationwide.
It is also anticipated that efforts would be made to improve the National Health Insurance Scheme and address issues in the health sector.
