The Ministry of Energy and Green Transition has directed the Electricity Company of Ghana to investigate complaints from consumers that prepaid electricity credit is running out unusually fast.
According to the Ministry’s spokesperson, Richmond Rockson, the sector minister, John Abdulai Jinapor, has taken notice of the growing concerns raised by electricity users across the country.
“The Minister of Energy and Green Transition Hon. Dr John Abdulai Jinapor has taken notice of these complaints and has directed ECG to investigate and provide a report within 7 days for further action,” he said.

The Ministry emphasized that the outcome of the probe will determine the next steps in addressing the matter and ensuring consumer protection. Officials say the investigation will examine all possible causes, including technical faults, billing errors, or other operational issues that may be affecting prepaid credit consumption.
Consumers have expressed frustration over sudden drops in their prepaid balances, prompting the Ministry to act swiftly to restore confidence in the electricity supply system.
The Ministry has assured Ghanaians that ECG is expected to carry out a thorough review and submit its findings within the stipulated period to prevent further inconveniences.
