Nigeria captain Ahmed Musa has announced his retirement from international football, bringing an end to a distinguished 15-year career with the Super Eagles.

The 33-year-old made the announcement on Wednesday via his official social media platforms, confirming his decision to step away from national team duties.

Musa leaves international football as Nigeria’s most-capped player, having made 111 appearances for the Super Eagles. He is only the third Nigerian footballer to reach the 100-cap milestone, alongside Joseph Yobo (100 caps) and Vincent Enyeama (101 caps).

Reflecting on his achievement, Musa described the milestone as a special honour.
“To become the most capped player in the history of Nigerian football is a great honour,” he said.

The former Leicester City forward was first called up to the national team in April 2010 by then head coach Lars Lagerbäck as part of Nigeria’s preparations for the FIFA World Cup. He went on to make his senior debut in September 2010, aged just 17.

Over the years, Musa became a key figure for the Super Eagles, captaining the side and representing Nigeria at multiple major international tournaments, including the Africa Cup of Nations and the FIFA World Cup.

His retirement marks the end of an era for Nigerian football, with Musa widely regarded as one of the country’s most consistent and dedicated servants on the international stage.
