Ghana’s Supreme Court will today hear an application contesting a Tamale High Court ruling that nullified the results of the December 7, 2024, parliamentary election in Kpandai.

The application was filed by Mathew Nyindam, the New Patriotic Party (NPP) candidate and sitting Member of Parliament for the constituency. Nyindam argues the High Court wrongly assumed jurisdiction and exceeded its legal mandate in annulling the vote.

The annulment stemmed from an election petition brought by Daniel Nsala Wakpal, the National Democratic Congress (NDC) candidate. Nyindam maintains the petition was invalid and says all proceedings arising from it should be set aside.

In his filing, Nyindam contends the High Court committed errors that warrant Supreme Court intervention through judicial review.

Following the High Court’s decision, the NPP also sought a stay of execution to prevent the Electoral Commission and the NDC from enforcing the annulment until the Supreme Court rules on the matter.
