The Deputy Minister for Energy and Green Transition, Richard Gyan Mensah, has announced the government’s plan to add 1,400 megawatts (MW) of modern renewable energy to Ghana’s power mix. The initiative aims to complement the country’s existing 5,700MW of grid capacity and further reinforce the stability currently enjoyed in the energy sector.
He disclosed this during the commissioning of an 859 kilowatt-peak (kWp) Solar Photovoltaic (PV) power station for Sintex Ghana Limited in Tema.

859kWp Solar Plant Commissioned
The newly installed solar system—expected to supply close to 1 megawatt of clean energy—was developed for Sintex Ghana, producers of polytanks and PVC pipes. The project was executed by SolPower Company Limited in partnership with Valtek Corporation, a Ghanaian-owned renewable energy firm.
This installation forms part of a broader collaboration between private entities and the government to deliver the planned 1,400MW renewable energy hub at the Dawa Industrial Enclave, which is expected to power industries within the zone.
Sintex Ghana Reaffirms Commitment to Sustainability
Speaking at the commissioning ceremony, Karan Budhrani, Director of Sintex Ghana, said the project underscores the company’s commitment to environmentally responsible industrial operations. He emphasised that adopting clean, green energy solutions aligns with Sintex’s long-term sustainability goals.
Govt Reaffirms Support for Private-Sector Energy Initiatives
Deputy Minister Richard Gyan Mensah applauded Sintex for its investment in renewable energy, noting that private sector-driven projects remain crucial to achieving Ghana’s green transition agenda. He reaffirmed the government’s commitment to ensuring stable, reliable, and efficient power supply for businesses nationwide.
After the ceremony, the minister toured the facility to gain first-hand insight into Sintex Ghana’s operations and energy needs.
